Taylors Coffee Packaging Changes
There’s a lot that goes into making a pack of Taylors coffee – all of which contributes to its great taste.
It starts with our strong relationships and investments with our growers that allow us to source the best beans, followed by our focus on quality at every stage of blending and roasting here in Harrogate until your coffee leaves our doors.
As always, we want to remain transparent with you on what’s happening in our world so we’re sharing more on a couple of changes that will soon be coming to our Taylors coffee range.
Pack Sizes
Firstly, our ground and beans packs are now a little smaller at 200g.
In the last few years, the costs involved in making great quality coffee have become increasingly unpredictable as changing weather patterns have affected our producer prices and we’ve experienced ongoing changes to shipping, logistics, packaging, and operational costs.
Amidst these fluctuations we’ve been determined to remain constant in our commitment to sourcing high quality beans from producers with whom we hold long term relationships through our Taylors Sourcing Approach (for more information, see below).
Reducing the weight of our packs means that we can continue to source the best quality coffee and invest in projects in our supply chain, while also ensuring we are delivering against our sustainability ambitions.
New recyclable packaging
We’ve also been working hard to find alternatives to our current packaging which can still keep our coffee fresh, provide a great cup and allow for a decent shelf-life, so that as little coffee as possible ends up unsold as food waste.
We’re pleased to say that our new packs will be made from a material called Mono-Polypropylene (Mono-PP), which means that it can be recycled, as long as it goes to the right place. To make sure of this, on the recyclable packs you’ll find a label that says ‘recycle at large supermarkets’.
In the next few years more and more households will be able to recycle their flexible plastic bags and wrapping at home, but in the meantime many major supermarkets have easy collection points at the front of stores. There’s lots more information about how and where you can recycle your plastic packaging here and more info on our Mono-PP packs here.
We believe that investing in a sustainable future for coffee is crucial and we’re still stretching our ambition – from our move to a Net Zero approach to our continued support of World Coffee Research and work towards a Living Wage in our supply chains.
You’ll start to see our new ground and beans packs on shelf from late August 2023. With every pack we produce we’re determined to make sure that it provides good value to our coffee drinkers and the people behind each cup, all the while being more environmentally friendly. If you have any questions on the changes, then please do get in touch with us at hello@taylorsofharrogate.co.uk.
Taylors Sourcing Approach
Taylors Sourcing Approach or TSA is driven by our strong relationships at origin. All of our core tea and coffee is third-party certified to monitor social and environmental standards but beyond this we collaborate with our key suppliers to build contracts, improve quality and address the social and environmental challenges they face within their operations and in their wider community, investing together to increase our impact.
A key element of TSA is to establish long term contracts with our coffee suppliers — which are rare in our industry. These contracts provide our suppliers with a level of financial security allowing them to plan for their business in the longer term. We also aim to pay prices that will at least cover the cost of production and to support producers when markets fall to unsustainable levels as well as investing in social and environmental projects in the communities we source from.
We also know that the implications of climate change are playing a big part in the current and future supply of quality coffee, so we support World Coffee Research, a non-profit agricultural research organisation, to find ways to protect and enhance quality coffee with crops that are more resistant to a changing climate.
